Our History
Wolfbrook began with a shared passion for property and a belief in its potential to create lasting wealth.
Co-founders Steve Brooks and James Cooney met in 2013. Both experienced property investors, they began collaborating on opportunities and went on to build one of New Zealand’s largest privately owned residential property portfolios.
In 2020, they established Wolfbrook, bringing together their experience in property investment and development. Their ambition was simple: to give more Kiwis access to quality homes and smart, long-term property investment opportunities.
Even the name reflects their partnership. Inspired by the story behind Blackstone’s name, James explored an interpretation of Cooney associated with “little wolf”. Combined with “brook” from Steve’s surname, Brooks, the name Wolfbrook was born.
In 2026, James and Steve agreed to pursue their individual business passions, marking a new chapter in Wolfbrook’s history. For James, the choice was clear: property—and continuing to build Wolfbrook.
Under James’s ownership, Wolfbrook Residential and Wolfbrook Capital carry that vision forward, with the same commitment to quality, transparency and lasting results.
